WARREN PINDER'S IMPORTANT ISSUES FOR CAMBRIDGE
"NO" TO ANY NEW PROPERTY TAX INCREASE
Cambridge residents pay amongst the highest property tax rate in the country, yet 'Money Sense' magazine rates Cambridge as only the 124th best city to live in Canada, well behind our neighbours of Kitchener and Waterloo. These 2 statistics must change immediately. If elected, Warren Pinder will fight for absolutely no increases to the property tax rate, work towards bringing the tax rate down to be in line with similar sized cities, and work to see that your tax dollars are spent wisely.
CREATING A NEW VISION FOR CAMBRIDGE
As we continue to grow, it is crucial to lay the groundwork now for the future of Cambridge. Going forward for the next four years, and even into the next twenty, Cambridge needs to decide who we are and what the city wants to become. We need to establish a new master plan for the entire city as a whole. When approving small idea's in various parts of the city, we need to consider the impact on all 3 regions of Hespeler, Galt and Preston, together with a vision of one goal. Whether it is cultural, recreational, educational, environmental or basic community issues, decisions should be based on Cambridge as a whole.
IMPROVE THE CITIES INFRASTRUCTURE
As the city of Cambridge continues to grow, city council needs to maintain and continue to improve the infrastructure it provides to the residents. One of the main issues facing the future of Cambridge is traffic. City council needs to plan for the future.... today...... to ensure traffic congestion does not continue to become a bigger problem. Cambridge residents deserve to be able to commute easily through out the city. Warren Pinder will work hard to ensure city infrastructure is well planned and maintained.
INCREASE FUNDING FOR THE CAMBRIDGE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL
As the city of Cambridge continues to grow, funding levels for the Cambridge Memorial Hospital should also increase. If elected, Warren Pinder will work will all levels of government to ensure that our local hospital is well equipped and able to provide all the functions of necessary health care to every resident of Cambridge.
NO TO ANY AMALGAMATION
The three cities of Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo are very distinct from one another. Cambridge residents face issues that are very different from our neighbours. This is why it is important for the city of Cambridge to maintain it's own municipal government, one that is separate from the region of Waterloo. If elected, Warren Pinder will vote NO to any amalgamation within the region of Waterloo.
SLOW THE URBAN SPRAWL
As the city of Cambridge continues to grow outward, the center core area becomes neglected. If elected, Warren Pinder will work with the Economic Development Board to revitalize the downtown city center. Providing more residential space to the area will lead to new small business and new cultural events, bringing new life and prosperity to Cambridge downtown.
POLICING FOR A SAFER CITY
Having more officers on the city streets leads to a safer city. Ward 1 has been effected lately with small crime such as car break ins and vandalism. Working with Waterloo Regional Police, Cambridge City Council needs to find the resources to have more police on patrol. Warren Pinder will make this a priority for you.
